JOB TITLE: Advocacy Coordinator
TERM: Full-time, One Year Contract
LOCATION: To be determined preference for location in a developing country in partnership with WBU member organization
REPORTING: The Advocacy Coordinator reports directly to the CEO World Blind Union, with secondary day-to-day reporting to the Manager of the host partner
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Advocacy Coordinator will support the World Blind Union and its members with respect to developing implementation and monitoring strategies related to the UNCRPD and to support the WBU and its members to represent the needs and views of blind and partially sighted persons through other UN instruments. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (entail but not limited to):
Assist the WBU to implement its CRPD toolkit to members
Support WBU Regions and members in the establishment of Regional CRPD networks and National Champions
Provide information and support to WBU Regional CRPD networks
Provide support to members to facilitate their involvement in promoting the ratification of the UNCRPD and then its implementation and monitoring in their countries
Monitor opportunities for national members to input into various UN instruments and support them to develop interventions
Research and prepare interventions or input by WBU to UN Treaty bodies or UN Agencies that are inviting input
Assist the WBU and its members to develop consistent messaging and strategies re advocacy efforts
Inform WBU members about opportunities as well as successful interventions as a means of sharing good practice
Liaise with other international partners as appropriate to facilitate and strengthen WBU's representation work.  In particular, these liaisons include International Disability Alliance staff, and CBM Advocacy Coordinators
QUALIFICATIONS: (EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE)
Post-secondary education in a related field
Experience in the areas of human rights, advocacy and disability rights
International experience a strong asset
Excellent written and oral communications in English essential as well as additional language ability, in particular French and/or Spanish
Well developed interpersonal and communications skills
Excellent writing skills
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software
Available for occasional international travel
Personal knowledge of blindness or low vision a definite asset
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience
